Budget 2013 decoded

It's that time of the year again when the government tells you how it plans to spend your hard-earned tax money. Where does it go to? Education? Defense? The National Strategic Fund for the Production of Roti Canais? Does it matter? Surely, it's the difference between a properous, growing economy and a bankrupt nation with an overabundance of roti canais.

The national budget is really your grocery list. Except you've outsourced the buying to a bunch of politicians in Kuala Lumpur. Understanding it to key to determining whether they've bought a balanced variety of food items (vegetables, meat, sugar) or trillion packs of potato chips. Needless to say, obesity kills. This budget is even more significant because it's the last before the next elections (the 13th General Election). So expect a lot of goodies. Whether they're fiscally sustainable or not is for you to decide.

So here's a brief no-nonsense explanation of the key highlights from Budget 2013.
